Piz Boè is the highest mountain of the Sella Group, a mountain-range in the Dolomites, Italy. It can be quite crowded in summer since it’s the most accessible three-thousand summit, but it’s definitely worth to climb and admire the incredible views.
Why this „almost” in the headline?! I need to mention that I was so stupid – we didn’t reach the top because of I was afraid of storm which has not come that day at all. Yes – congratulations to me. I collect reasons to be back there again and again…
The easiest way is to take the Boè gondola lift from Corvara, then change to Vallon chair lift. I remember using these lifts in winter – the landscape is so different! Our hike starts here. You immediately get surrounded by rocky landscapes and breath-taking views.

We follow the path 638, passing near Rifugio Franz Kostner. Knowing that there could be some storm in the afternoon, we decided to not stop there. We had to speed up.
Wow! It’s a via ferrata kingdom! I need to try it once!
Soon we reach a guide post saying „Risa de Pigolerz” and „Piz Boè”, where our trail 638 continues. Some tourists decided to turn back here. Honestly, I was scared too – never done it before! This section was quite challenging, but it gave me a great experience. I want more of it!

We hiked just a little bit up and noticed that there is still quite far to the peak and decided to turn back, using the same 638 trail.

You can decide if you want to use the Vallon chairlift or walk down. If you still have some power it’s worth to take the trail 638 to reach the idyllic Lech de Boé lake (also nicely visible from the chairlift).
The descent proceeds unto the Piz Boé Alpine Lounge hut, where is the bottom station of the Vallon chairlift too. It’s a great place to relax and celebrate your great day in the mountains and take the Boé cable car which will take you back to Corvara.
If you wish to continue on foot, you can take trails 639 and 645 which will lead you steeply down to the Crëp de Sela peak (1867 m). Following the path 645 you arrive to Colfosco in less than one hour. Before coming to Colfosco you can take the trail 28 to be back to Corvara.
We already had two way tickets for the lifts, so we took both of them. Then we already knew there will be no storm at all. Even though we didn’t reach the top of Piz Boè, we had so much fun during the excursion admiring the beautiful surroundings.

I’m totally in love with the extraordinary beauty of the Dolomites. I love this area both in winter and in summer and I want to get to know it in autumn and late spring too. I would definitely live there, if I could! Some job offers? 😀
